UK Hallmarking Criteria
The UK Compulsory Hallmarking requirement guarantees the purity of precious metal in an item of jewellery and is a legal regulation for all gold items that weigh over 1g.
The 1973 UK Hallmarking Act means that nowhere else in the world are consumers more protected when buying gold than in the UK. Every gold item sold on Jewellery Bee abides by this set of regulations and all items carry the UK Hallmark, with the exception of items that weigh under 1g (mostly small earrings).
The UK Hallmark comprises of three components; The Sponsors Mark (this was formally known as the marker's mark and tells you the name of the Company that originally submitted the item for hallmarking), The Fineness Mark, which tells you the purity of the metal ( 9ct would be shown an 375 for example) and the Assay Office Mark ( this tells us where the item has been tested for its precious metal content in the UK).
Interestingly, as Jewellery Bee is Pre-owned and proudly so, some of the items in our Vintage range will have hallmarks that date back over a number of years allowing you to own a little piece of history with each piece.
